Masters Corner

Brethren,

April was another active month for Collington Lodge. We started the month with a special presentation from Bro. Samuel Rodriguez from Howard 101 on the 65th Infantry Regiment, also known as “The Borinqueneers.” This military unit from Puerto Rico served in WWI, WWII and Korea and received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2016. Bro. Rodriguez highlighted the involvement our Masonic brethren from Puerto Rico had during the years this unit was active.

During the month of April, we received two petitions for affiliation and two for the degrees of Ancient Freemasonry. If everything goes according to our plans, we will be conferring the Entered Apprentice degree during the first stated communication in June on these two candidates. If you are able, join us for this communication as we welcome two new members to Collington and to our fraternity.

I am happy to report that Bro. Jack Callaway and all the catechism instructors are doing a great job with our newly initiated brothers. Bro. Daniel Keith Preston presented an excellent proficiency during our last communication in April, and will be receiving his next degree in May. As the rest of the EA brothers continue to make satisfactory progress on the catechism, we should expect to confer additional degrees for the rest of the year. I am happy to see our lodge continue to grow, and extend an invitation to all the Collington brothers to attend the lodge meetings and make these brothers feel at home.

With the arrival of the summer months we have a full calendar of events planned for May and June. Please take a look at the “Upcoming Events” section of this month's Trestleboard for more details.

The City of Bowie Memorial Day Parade will be held Saturday May 27. We will meet at the lodge in the morning then move to the staging area at the Bowie High School Annex on Belair Drive. The Mini Motor Corps from Almas Shrine and the young men of Bowie-Collington DeMolay will also be part of the parade. After the parade, we will go back to the Lodge for lunch. Later that day, we have the “Ladies Paint and Wine Night” for the ladies of Collington.

On Monday May 29th, we will attend the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the City of Bowie Veterans Memorial Park. Join us as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave up their lives serving our country.

June 3rd is Bowie-Fest and we will be there to raise funds for the C. Elizabeth Reig school as well as with the CHIP equipment. This event will also serve as the Lodge’s Open House event.

Collington’s family picnic has been scheduled for Saturday June 17th at Whitemarsh Park in Bowie. Additional information will be provided as we finalize the planning of this event.

We have a lot of events planned for the summer and will need the help of all the brethren. If you want to volunteer for any of these events, please contact any of the lodge officers at the numbers provided for additional information.

I would like to close this month’s trestleboard with the following thought:

“Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worth wile.”

Bro. Wilfred T. Grenfell

Fraternally yours,

Rafael Rodriguez

Worshipful Master
